Advantages of Using Track Lighting in Your Commercial Space

Track lights offer numerous benefits for commercial settings due to their versatile nature. Through horizontal and vertical fixture rotation, track lights are designed to direct light at precise angles. This allows your lighting to highlight specific areas, merchandise, and displays. You can account for changes in a store’s layout by easily moving light fixtures along the track to reconfigure your store’s lighting without the need for an electrician. And, you can install track lights emitting varying beam angles and color temperatures along the same track system to further personalize your space’s lighting design. Beyond these lighting benefits, track light fixtures also offer a sleek and contemporary appearance to help modernize your business.

Commercial Applications

Track lights are a great lighting solution for a variety of commercial spaces. Retail stores, galleries, showrooms, or libraries utilize track lighting to carefully aim lighting toward merchandise and objects displayed along walls. Other forms of lighting, like linear light fixtures and flush mount downlights, do not have the ability to direct light in this way. Additionally, track lights can act as a general ambient light source for restaurants, grocery stores, bars, and art studios by illuminating food displays, tables, and workstations from above.

Different Track Types

There are three track lighting tracks: H-Type, J-Type, and L-Type. Most track light fixtures will be compatible with a system using the same track type and voltage.

  • H-Type tracks, also known as "Halo" tracks, are the most popular and widely used type of track light. This type utilizes a 3-wire system with three thin, flat buss bars.
  • J-Type tracks, or Juno-type tracks, utilize a 2-wire system with two cylindrical buss bars.
  • L-Type tracks use a 2-wire system. L-Type tracks are also referred to as the “Lightolier” type.

Super Bright LEDs carries a range of H-Type track lights and accessories compatible with most existing H-Type track systems.

Flood vs. Spot Beam

Many businesses choose track lights because they offer flexible beam angle options. Art studios, galleries, and showrooms may utilize narrow spotlight beams to draw attention to featured artwork and displays. On the other hand, businesses such as grocery stores and restaurants might opt for a wider beam angle if they need to provide general area lighting. Some retail stores and restaurants may require a track light system with both spotlights and floodlights to supply adequate lighting in multi-functional areas. No matter what type of light beam your commercial space requires, track lights are designed to offer this flexibility. Many of our commercial track lights have an adjustable head that emits a range of beam angles. We also carry LED-ready track light fixtures that are compatible with bulbs and lenses featuring a selectable beam angle.

High CRI for Commercial Spaces

Certain commercial spaces like art studios, galleries, clothing stores, restaurants, and grocery stores require lighting with a high CRI to accurately show the colors of the artwork and food being displayed. CRI, or the Color Rendering Index, measures how accurately a light source shows an object's true colors. The higher the CRI, the more accurately the light represents the true nature of colors. Any CRI above 90 is considered “High-CRI" and will display a highly accurate color rendering. Our integrated LED track lights and compatible bulbs emit 90+ CRI for accurate color rendering.

Lower Future Maintenance and Replacement Costs with LEDs

Using LEDs for your track lighting system provides various benefits for your commercial space. LEDs are energy efficient and consume significantly less power when compared to traditional lighting sources. For large businesses that require an extensive track light system, switching to LEDs can significantly help lower overall energy and maintenance costs. LED lights have a long lifespan, which minimizes future replacement expenses. They also produce minimal heat, contributing to a more comfortable shopping and working environment.

There are two main types of LED track light fixtures: integrated and LED-ready fixtures. Integrated track lights have LED chips built into the fixture, which eliminates the need for bulb replacement. LED-ready track lights will accept light bulbs with a compatible socket and voltage, so you can swap out bulbs when needed. Both types offer all the benefits of LED lighting, and both are great options for replacing incandescent track lights. If you are trying to find a replacement light for an existing system, LED track lights and bulbs with selectable color temperatures and wattages can provide you with a similar-looking light output. Super Bright LEDs offers commercial-style track lights with these features.
