Track Types
There are three track lighting tracks: H-Type, J-Type, and L-Type. Most track light fixtures will be compatible with a system using the same track type and voltage.
-
H-Type tracks, also known as "Halo" tracks, are the most popular and widely used type of track light. This type utilizes a 3-wire system with three thin, flat buss bars.
-
J-Type tracks, or Juno-type tracks, utilize a 2-wire system with two cylindrical buss bars.
-
L-Type tracks use a 2-wire system. L-Type tracks are also referred to as the “Lightolier” type.
Our product selection includes Halo Compatible, H-Type track lights, and accessories.
What Are the Advantages of Using Track Lights?
Installing track lights in your residential or commercial space has various benefits, both for the technology of LEDs and the design of the track lights.
-
Longevity: LEDs are more energy efficient, ensuring they last much longer than incandescent bulbs, usually at least 50,000 hours.
-
High CRI: CRI, or the Color Rendering Index, measures how accurately a light source shows an object's true colors. The higher the CRI, the more accurately the light depicts the colors. High CRI is important for retail stores, art galleries, and other areas where the colors of the product are important. Our integrated LED track lights and compatible bulbs emit 90+ CRI for accurate color rendering.
-
Versatility: Track lights are designed to direct light at precise angles through horizontal and vertical fixture rotation. This allows your lighting to highlight specific areas, merchandise, and displays. You can account for changes in a store’s layout by easily moving light fixtures along the track to reconfigure your store’s lighting without needing an electrician.
-
Design: Track light fixtures offer a sleek and contemporary appearance to help modernize your business.
-
Adjustable Beam Angles: We carry track lights with adjustable beam angles from either 10°-60° or 15°-60°. This allows you to change the beam angle if you update your business's layout or plan to adjust for new product displays.
How Do I Choose the Track Light I Need?
-
Consider the CCT of your lights. We carry a wide range of CCTs from 2700K-6000K, with selectable CCT for certain products. For supermarkets or office spaces, a cool or neutral white can increase focus and visibility. For installation in residential living rooms or the dining area of restaurants, a warm CCT will increase the feeling of relaxation.
-
Another factor is the lumen output. For larger areas or locations requiring a more intense light distribution, a greater amount of lumens should be used. If you’re planning to swap out an existing traditional track system with LEDs emitting the same light output, choose LED track lights with the same amount of lumens as your existing lighting setup. LEDs will have a much lower wattage than incandescent track lights while emitting the same amount of lumens.
-
Since multiple fixtures can be installed on a track system, you must assess the needed amount of fixtures for your application. For example, track lights in a residential area may require as few as four heads, but larger areas such as a retail setting could need 10+ bulbs on a track.
What Do I Need to Consider For Installation?
We carry a wide range of accessories to simplify track light installation. This includes connectors to extend your halo track and power feeds. 15, 25, and 36-degree replacement lenses are available. Choose between 2 ft or 4 ft white and black track circuit systems. The tracks come with the supplies needed to surface mount the lights.

Are Track Lights Dimmable?
Yes, our track lights are dimmable using TRIAC dimming. Dimmable fixtures allow you to adjust the fixture’s brightness. Install one of our dimmer switches to ensure you can dim the lights. We carry dimmer switches that operate via a smart app and can be controlled with a smartphone and tablet or through smart home ecosystems, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home.
How to Remove a Bulb From Track Lighting
Removing a bulb from a track light is simple. Before you begin, turn the power off. Then, unscrew or unplug the bulb from the fixture. If you’re adding a new bulb, go ahead and install it according to the instructions. Turn the power on and test if the bulb works.
