Class 2
Class 2 power supplies must meet the National Electric Code (NEC) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL 1310) standards for wiring requirements and power limitations of AC/DC power supplies to minimize shock or fire risks. All Class 2 power supplies must meet the NEC overcurrent protection and wiring sizing regulations. They must be constructed with ‘In-Wall’ rated wiring for permanent installation inside walls or floors, where they may be surrounded by insulation. These wiring requirements help prevent cracking or melting of the wire, which could cause a fire hazard. These power supplies must have a maximum power capacity of 100 VA and cannot exceed a 30 VAC or 60 VDC output, minimizing the risk of electric shock or overheating from excessive currents.
Class P
Class P is a UL-listed program that allows manufacturers to substitute compliant LED drivers without recertifying their products. It has established guidelines for evaluating and testing standardized LED driver designs and ratings to meet nationally accepted safety standards (including UL 8750) and be free of a reasonably foreseeable fire risk, electric shock, or other hazards. This program offers manufacturers flexibility, cost savings, and faster market access by enabling driver exchanges without recertification.
This product meets California Energy Commission (CEC) Title 24 JA8 requirements and is registered in their Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).
Title 24 encompasses regulations for energy conservation, green design, construction, maintenance, fire and life safety, and accessibility in both residential and non-residential buildings across California, covering structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Implemented on January 1, 2017, these Building Energy Efficiency Standards include the Joint Appendix Section 8 (JA8) requirements for residential buildings, which are akin to Title 20 requirements, featuring L/W prerequisites. Compliance with Title 24 entails:
- CRI greater than 90
- R9 greater than 50 (R9 color rendering value indicates how well your lighting will highlight red colors)
- CCT under 4000K
- 6,000-hour lumen maintenance greater than or equal to 86.7%
- Rated life greater than or equal to 15,000 hours
- 10% dimming
- Flicker less than 30% for 200 Hz or below at 100% and 20% levels
- Noise less than 24 dB at 100% and 20%
- Label (either JA8-2016 or JA8-2016-E) on bulb
- Immediate start time (0.5 seconds or less)

Certifications/Compliance
Certifications/Compliance
Standards and certifications comprise a vast number of companies and compliances that serve specific purposes—primarily addressing safety, environmental impact, energy efficiency, and sanitation. They are divided into categories for each product type and certification type to allow for very specific qualifications related to each product. When this system is being used as intended, it gives consumers, installers, suppliers, and anyone else who may be involved confidence that the product is safe and will work well in their application. UL and ETL certifications relate to safety and installation and are the most common for power supplies. |

Dimming Control
Dimming Control
TRIAC Dimming: This is the most commonly recognized dimming type, with TRIAC Dimmers found in most Home Centers and hardware stores. TRIAC (TRIode for Alternating Current) dimmers operate by modifying the voltage waveform, reducing the amount of power input to the device being controlled. Reducing the input power will result in a corresponding reduction in a power supply's output voltage/current or a decrease in the lumen output of a light fixture. TRIAC dimmers come in two variations: MLV and ELV.
0-10V Dimming: This type of dimming control is most commonly found in commercial applications. It works by varying a voltage from 0 to 10 VDC on dedicated dimming wires. The output of a power supply or light fixture is proportional to the voltage applied. Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) Dimming: This dimming control adjusts output by rapidly turning the output on and off at a fixed frequency. The proportion of on-time to total time sets the dimming percentage. Potentiometer Dimming: Potentiometer dimming varies the output using a variable resistor, or potentiometer, to set the dimming level. |

Output Power
Output Power
A power supply's power consumption is measured in watts and refers to the maximum amount of power it is capable of delivering. For best results, choose a power supply that offers a minimum of 20% wattage overhead for your application. Wattage overhead ensures that your project will function correctly, extends the life of the power supply, and offers greater design flexibility by allowing for project expansion. |
