COB LED Strip Lights: Everything You Need to Know

COB LED strip lights provide seamless, dotless illumination by mounting multiple chips on a substrate for enhanced brightness and uniformity. They’re energy-efficient, high-CRI, and ideal for under-cabinet lighting, signage, and architectural accents.

12-Volt vs. 24-Volt LED Strip Lights: What’s the Difference?

12V LED strips are great for shorter runs and simple setups, especially in vehicles or small spaces. 24V strips are better for longer installations, as they reduce voltage drop and maintain brightness over greater distances.

How to Choose the Best LED Strip Light Power Supply

Consider voltage, total length, and whether dimming is needed. It recommends calculating total wattage and selecting a power supply with at least 20% more capacity for optimal performance.

Overview

The COB Series LED strip light creates a smooth, seamless line of light. The superior design will not show visible dots or hot spots, making it ideal illumination for reflective surfaces such as granite countertops and tile floors. It eliminates the need for a lens cover and is also suitable for narrow applications like jewelry cases and backlighting. Chip-on-board technology produces high-quality light while mitigating heat buildup and improving strip flexibility. With high 90+ CRI, this tape light is a solution for places where quality color rendering is needed, such as display cases and kitchen counters. Measuring only 8mm, the strip light is fully dimmable, cuttable in 1.41" segments, and 3M™ adhesive-backed.

LED Strip Lights FAQs

What is the difference between 12V and 24V strip lights?

Most LED strips are extremely similar despite differences in voltage. They look the same and are capable of similar light output. Despite this, there are some key differences between voltages which affect use for various applications. 12-volt DC strips can be connected directly to a vehicle's 12-volt DC electrical system. Higher voltage strips (e.g. 24 VDC, 36 VDC, or 48 VDC) on the other hand allow for longer runs and higher densities of LEDs over their 12-volt counterparts. 120 VAC strips offer incredibly long max runs and the ability to power from a standard wall outlet. For the maximum run of a strip see max run in the specification table. Read More »

How long of a run can I make my strip?

The max run of an LED strip is dependent on two primary things—voltage and density.

Higher voltage strips will generally give you a longer run than comparable lower voltage strips (e.g. 24 VDC would have a longer max run than 12 VDC with the same type of strip and density). Similarly, lower density strips have the potential for longer runs than high density strips.

So essentially, max run can be lengthened by choosing a higher voltage and/or lower density version of a strip, but a higher voltage could also provide a similar max run at an increased density where brightness or 'line of light' are more of a concern. If an install needs to extend beyond a strips max run, additional power feeds can also be run back to the power supply from other points in the run.

Please refer to the max run spec listed in the specification table of each product information page for specific information about each strip. Read More »

What is color temperature? Which one is best?

Graphic showing light output color temperature range

Correlated Color Temperature is the hue, or tint of white to expect from a light source and is measured in kelvin. Lower numbers give off a warmer white that is closer to candle light, and is good for relaxed and cozy spaces. Higher numbers give off a cooler white light that will appear more blueish. While values to the middle of the spectrum give off a more neutral or natural white light that is similar to daylight. Natural and cool white are considered ideal for task lighting.

How bright is the strip? What are lumens and how many do I need?

Lumens are the measure of how bright an LED strip will be when in use. The higher the lumen rating, the brighter the strip will be. Higher lumen strips are usually better for under cabinet and task lighting. Lower lumen strips are typically used for accent lighting applications.

What accessories do I need?

The only thing you need for certain to power a strip light is a power supply. We offer accessories used for installation, such as connectors and aluminum mounting channels. As well as others that add functionality such as such as dimmers, switches, and remote controls. Complete kits are also offered which include everything you need to get started.
