Frequently Asked Questions
What Bulbs Will Fit My Vehicle?
The appropriate vehicle bulb for your installation will depend on your vehicle’s make, model, and year. It will also depend on the placement of the bulb, interior vs exterior, headlight vs taillight, etc. Choose the LED bulb you need by comparing it to the existing bulb in your vehicle. Most bulbs will have the bulb type printed on. Additionally, we have our vehicle bulb finder, in which you can input the year, make, and model of your vehicle. You will then see the available front exterior bulbs, rear exterior bulbs, interior bulbs, and flashers and load resistors that are compatible with your vehicle. Our vehicle bulb finder provides bulbs for various applications, including cars, trucks, SUVs, and motorcycles.
What Are the Benefits of Switching to LED Bulbs in My Vehicle?
One of the biggest benefits of switching over to LEDs is the energy efficiency. LEDs require less energy to operate than traditional bulbs, releasing the same amount of light as a Halogen or HID bulb at a lower wattage. Energy-efficient lighting saves you money on your electric bill, and its longer lifespan reduces the frequency of replacements and maintenance. LED bulbs are also better for your vehicle’s battery life than Halogen or HID bulbs.
When Should I Use a Load Resistor for My Vehicle?
LED load resistors are needed if your bulbs are hyperflashing or if you’re receiving a ‘bulb-out’ warning on your vehicle. LEDs draw significantly less power than traditional bulbs, so vehicles may not initially register the LED bulb. When load resistors are installed, they mimic the power created by a traditional bulb, helping the vehicle register the new bulb. LED flashers can also be installed to fix hyperflashing in certain relay systems. However, flashers can’t remove a ‘bulb-out’ warning. CAN bus bulbs also remove the ‘bulb-out’ warning and provide simple plug-and-play installation. However, these can only be installed in vehicles that have existing CAN bus housing.
When Is It Legal To Install LEDs on My Vehicle?
LEDs can legally be installed in rear exterior lighting and interior lighting. However, there may be restrictions on the colors that can be used; Red and blue LEDs are often restricted for emergency vehicles only. Refer to your local government to determine what laws are in place.
LED vehicle headlights, unless installed by the manufacturer, are illegal in the USA except for off-road and fog light or off-road applications. Street use of headlights is not compliant with DOT/FMVS108 standards, and LEDs can’t legally be installed in halogen headlight housing, regardless of marketing claims.
Should LED Bulbs Be Aimed After Installation?
Yes, you must aim LED bulbs after installation to avoid directing excessive light onto oncoming traffic. Unaligned headlights can be distracting and disorienting to others on the road. Poorly aimed headlights can also make it difficult for you to clearly see the road, signs, or pedestrians.
