LED side marker and clearance lights are installed on semi-trucks and trailers to increase the vehicle’s visibility. Side marker and clearance lights differ in how and where they’re used. Side marker lights are installed on the front and rear side reflectors to make the commercial truck and trailer noticeable to other drivers. Clearance lights are installed along the upper edges of a truck or trailer to denote its width and height.


Can These Lights Be Used As Turn Signals?
Certain lights can be used as both a side marker light and a turn signal. These ‘Mid-Ship Turn Lights’ can function as mid-turn signal lights, side reflectors, and side marker lights. These lights feature an oval shape and emit an amber color.
Why Are Side Marker and Clearance Lights Required for My Commercial Truck and Trailer?
Side marker and clearance lights must be installed on commercial trucks and trailers for increased safety by ensuring the vehicles are visible to others. Most of our side marker and clearance lights are DOT-Compliant, indicating they meet the FMVSS 108 standards, are in compliance with the strict legal guidelines, and are street legal. Certain lights also feature a CE (Conformité Européenne / European Conformity)

What Colors Should My Side Marker and Clearance Lights Be?
The side marker and clearance lights come in amber, white, red, green, and more, as well as amber/red color combinations. However, red and amber lights are most commonly used for these applications, with amber lights required for front side marker and clearance lights, and red lights required for rear side marker and clearance lights to be in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards.
Are Side Marker and Clearance Lights Waterproof?
These LED lights feature a sonically sealed polycarbonate lens and weatherproof housing to ensure these lights have water protection. Our lights have an IP rating of at least IP65, and we also offer clearance or side marker lights with an IP67 submersible rating for rougher terrains.

Lights may have a (Photometrically Certified) PC Rating, indicating they can be installed as both a side marker and a clearance light. If a light has a P2 Rating, it can only be installed as a side marker or clearance light, not both.
What Do I Need to Know About Installing Side Marker and Clearance Lights?
The installation process will depend on the mounting type used. Mounting choices include surface, recessed, bracket, stud, and flange. If mounting supplies don’t come with the product, easily shop compatible mounting supplies by looking at the product pages and the ‘Accessories & Power Supplies’ section. Different products will require different connection types, such as 2-pin, 3-pin, pigtail, and bullet connectors.
