Commercial Truck and Trailer LED Lights
How to Install Trailer Lights
LED trailer lights offer many benefits over traditional bulbs, including better visibility, enhanced durability, and energy efficiency. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you replace your trailer lights with LED lights.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Should I Use LEDs On My Truck or Trailer?
Switching your traditional bulbs over to LEDs in your commercial truck or trailer provides numerous benefits. This includes reduced maintenance and improvements in fuel efficiency and durability. Additionally, LEDs have longer lifespans, lasting up to 50,000 hours or over 5.5 years. The exact lifespan of your truck or trailer lights depends on factors like usage, quality of the lights, and maintenance. For example, a 5W LED could be driven at 5W, etc, but driving an LED at maximum power generates a higher temperature, decreasing its lifespan. Though overall, comparing the lifespan, reliability, and maintenance costs, LED lights will reduce expenses over time.
Where Are Lights Required to Be Installed on a Trailer?
Commercial trucks and trailers generally require headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, clearance lights, reflectors, license plate lights, and emergency flashers. Among other requirements, commercial trucks at least 80 inches wide must have front and rear clearance and Identification (ID) lamps. Clearance lights indicate the vehicle's width. ID lamps indicate the presence of a wide vehicle. Rear lamps should not be combined with tail lights and are not required for truck tractors. These lights help prevent accidents and protect the lives of truck drivers and other motorists.
How Do I Wire Trailer Lights?
Use the matching wires from your trailer to connect to the wires on the LED lights, a ground wire, a taillight wire, and a turn signal/brake light wire. If the replacement light features a plug that’s still good quality and is compatible with the new LED bulb, simply plug the new light into the existing connector.
To ensure your new connections are secured, use connectors, or for a more permanent connection, solder the wires together and cover them with heat-shrink tubing. Each product page will feature compatible connectors, power wire, three-wire pigtails, and other accessories that may be needed for installation under the ‘Accessories & Power Supplies’ section.
How Do I Choose the Right LED For My Commercial Truck or Trailer?
The right LEDs will depend on what you plan to use the lights for, such as tail lights, turn signal lights, brake lights, or reverse lights. The lights also come in various shapes, mount types, and color options, including white, amber, and red, and color combinations of amber/red, white/red, and amber/red/white. Voltages range from 12 VDC to 48 VDC.
How Can I Troubleshoot Issues With My Truck or Trailer Lights?
Finding the issues with your truck or trailer can be as simple as checking the fuses, wiring, or connections for any damage. Also, check the diodes to verify they haven’t burnt out and that the ground connection is still secure. If the lights are still not working, consult a professional mechanic or electrician.
Our lights are backed by warranties if your lights are experiencing issues not due to any incorrect usage. Lifetime warranties are available for select products.
