I have 42 of these in various locations around the property, all of which are installed in the soil. I've had 2 go bad (water intrusion) but SBL quickly replaced them under warranty, which I appreciate very much. The rest have been working great, 14 of them survived the 2015 blizzard Jonas. They sat under the blizzard snow the entire time, coming on and off daily according to the photo sensor with no hiccups.
They do experience a bit of a voltage drop after about 10 units (you'll notice them getting dimmer per additional light) or so in the chain but that's just the physical limitations of electricity and copper, not due to the light.
Perfect for subtle lighting
Like all of my purchases from SBL, these lights do not disappoint. Though they are somewhat expensive, they are high quality and put out good light. I used some inground to highlight rocks and shrubbery in the garden and mounted some others inside an old stake type mount. One handy feature is that they have 2 connectors on each light allowing you to string multiple lights together very easily. I have not doubt they will last for years.
