Great light! Except it didn't fit my 6" cans
First, these DL56D-NW20W retrofit units are GREAT for both color and lumen output, and indeed, are much better than the standard Home Depot or Lowe's products available locally. Those are less than half the 1550 Lumen output. Great for counters, but too dark for floors. (The 150 watt bulbs of the Plaskolite Alzac fixtures we are replacing light the floors much better.) Instead, the DL56D's are great! The 4000K’s are a bit "whiter" light than the 150 watts, however.
Sadly, they say these replacement units fit both 5" & 6" fixtures, but not our 6" units. The clips inside the recessed box are 6" apart but the 1-piece springs on these lights are only 5" apart. The DL56D's won’t fit flush with the ceiling, since the springs bend and pop loose from the clip inside the box. They may work great on a 5" box, but not a 6" like mine. A change to the spring on these would really help 6" fixtures like mine. Regretfully, I have to return these and search for something else or rework the clips.
Not a perfect fit for 6 inch cans
These lights are not a good pick for H27ICAT (shallow Halo 6-in recessed housings) you can get at Home Depot. They do not want to slide all the way in. I had to cut the metal "locking sticks" to fit them in. Based on my experience these would be perfect for a 5 inch can. It can work in 6 inch cans if you're willing to do some custom work (which I did).
This being said, I do not recommend this mode for a 6 inch Halo cans.
Otherwise I had no issues.
As Advertised
Excellent option for retrofit. I placed 10 retrofit FEIT Costco lights in a laboratory room only to find that the 800 lumens was not effective for lighting the room. I replaced five of them with the DL56D-WW20W and the room lit up far more effectively with the higher lumen rating. The price difference is significant, but worth it. I only wish that I could afford 5 more for the Lab; but the mix appears to work quite well.
Best lights form my needs
I was looking for a better light in the living quarts of my pole shed which has 16' ceiling. I was using 75 watt spot lights to get light to the floor, worked ok but these Leds work like a dream come true. Great lights would recommended to anyone with high ceiling.
