Waterproof LED Strip Lights

Weatherproof LED strip lights with an IP rating of IP64 provide protection against condensation and water sprays, but can’t be submerged in water. IP67-rated LED lights are considered more waterproof and can be submerged for short periods of time. 

You also need to be sure to use a connector that is at minimum, water resistant. This is to ensure your connections of strip lights and power supplies are secure and resilient to elements. 

Also, for coastal areas with sea spray and contact with salt water, note that corrosion is more likely and securing cables with silicone coverings and sealed end caps is best. 

For our LED strip lights, you will need to purchase a power supply. However, keep in mind that power supplies are not always weatherproof, so you will need to protect the power supply from the elements otherwise non-weatherproof or non-waterproof power supplies can fail.

For outdoor and damp locations with the possibility of water splashing, a minimum of IP65 is recommended. IP65 provides protection against dust and debris as well as water splashes and jets from any direction. However, IP65 LED light strips are not rated to be submerged in water. 

Weatherproof lights are also used indoors for damp locations such as bathrooms and kitchen areas where steam and water splashes are possible. For these indoor locations, you could use an LED strip with an IP Rating of IP44. When placing lights under a gazebo or covered porch and railings, you can utilize LED strips with an IP rating of 65 or higher. For areas with direct contact with water and temporary submersion, IP67 LED strips would be used.  

Yes, you can cut outdoor LED light strips to fit your needs. However, be sure to look for the designated cut lines and not cut outside of them. Ensure you have measured accurately and double-check before cutting. 

When cutting strip lights to fit your application, be sure to use sharp scissors to get a clean cut and avoid fraying or uneven cuts. Be sure to disconnect your LED strip light from power before cutting. Once the strip is cut, to prevent damage from weather and outdoor elements, secure the areas cut with end caps.
