UDSR2 - UFO High Bay Lights
UFO High Bay Lights Overview
High bay UFO LED lights are a style of round fixtures that provide intense, uniform light output. These fixtures should be installed in areas with ceilings at least 18 feet off the ground. UFO high bays are built with integrated heat sinks to maximize LED lifetime and efficiency. Choose a UFO high bay with a reflector to reduce glare and make the light more uniform. This is ideal for high shelving or lighting objects closer to the ceiling. We offer high bays with optional reflectors that can be installed or removed if the light distribution is no longer needed.

Types
Standard
Standard UFO high bays have optimal energy efficiency and deliver powerful, consistent lighting throughout high-ceiling areas. These fixtures are typically used for commercial and industrial applications. Dimmable fixtures can be installed with motion sensors to ensure lights only power on when activity is detected.

NSF Washdown
Choose NSF washdown fixtures for facilities meeting strict sanitary requirements. These fixtures meet the standards set by the National Sanitation Foundation. Our NSF washdown fixtures have an IP69K waterproof rating, guaranteeing they can handle high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns.

High Temperature
Our high-temperature UFO high bays are constructed with materials that can withstand higher heat. All of our high-temperature high bays can operate in ambient temperatures up to 65°C (149°F). Installing this style of UFO high bay is the safest and most effective way to ensure your fixtures don’t overheat when installed in steel mills, metal processing plants, and other areas prone to high heat.

Sensor Ready
Sensor-ready high bays are available to integrate your lights with motion sensors, including daylight sensors, which will adjust the amount of light emitted based on the available daylight. We carry Networked Lighting Control (NLC) compatible sensor-ready high bays that implement Bluetooth Mesh to simultaneously power lights on and off, schedule lights, change brightness, etc. Equip your fixture with NLC sensors for remote app control of various functions via a smartphone or tablet.

Common Applications
Since UFO high bay LED lights provide such a wide, uniform light output, they are well-suited for many applications, including:
-
Warehouses
-
Factories
-
Sporting Arenas
-
Workshops
-
Retail Spaces
What is the Difference Between UFO and Linear High Bays?
One difference that can affect the best high bay lights for your application is the shape. While UFOs are round, linear high bays are rectangular. They can also differ in their applications– UFO high bays are often more compact and provide intense overhead light for larger, open areas, such as in warehouses or manufacturing plants. Linear high bays have a more rectangular spread, which is suitable for long, narrow spaces and aisles such as supermarkets or retail spaces. Linear high bays also provide more versatile mounting options, including suspension and surface mounting kits.
However, UFO and linear high bays are similar in providing uniform, glare-free lighting, with specialty sensor-ready, high-temperature, and NSF-certified fixtures available.
What Are The Benefits of Using UFO LED High Bays?
There are many benefits to using LED high bays:
- LEDs emit less heat than traditional fixtures, and our UFO high bays are built with heat sinks for more efficient heat dissipation.
- Our LED high bays emit more lumens at a lower wattage, meaning you can get the same amount of light or more using fewer fixtures. This increased energy efficiency increases the longevity of the lights (up to 2-3 times longer than metal halides) and reduces the frequency of replacements, minimizing expenses.
- LEDs provide better light quality than fluorescent fixtures, reducing glare and eye strain.
How Do I Calculate the Number of UFO High Bays I Need?
Calculate the number of UFO LED high bay lights you need by assessing the location, ceiling height, and beam angle. You must ensure the proper number of fixtures with the right spacing for uniform lighting. Uniform lighting should be consistent throughout, without gaps or areas of excessive brightness.
Location
For areas with more intense, focused light, such as above workstations, install more fixtures and place them close together. If you’re looking for overhead lighting, such as in a store setting, you can probably opt for fewer fixtures with more spacing between them.
Ceiling Height
The ceiling height in an area will determine the spacing of the lights. The higher the ceiling is from the ground, the farther the light distribution. Ceilings 15-20 feet tall should have lights spaced 12-15 feet apart. For ceilings 20-30 feet tall, lights should be spaced 15 to 20 feet apart. And for ceilings 30-40 feet tall, lights should have spacing of at least 20-30 feet.
The ceiling height and size of the area will also affect the lumen and spacing recommendations:
-
For a space with lower ceiling heights or smaller areas, fixtures could have lumens between 10,000 and 15,000 and be spaced 12-15 feet apart.
-
For higher ceilings or larger areas, high bays should have at least 15,000 lumens and be spaced 25-30 feet apart.
Beam Angles
Our LED UFO high bays have beam angles typically ranging from 80-120°. For areas with shorter ceilings, use a wider beam angle that will provide more coverage with a lower intensity; however, if you’re installing in an area with high ceilings, choose a narrow beam angle to achieve even lighting and ensure that more of the light output reaches the ground.
Note: The coverage area will vary based on the ceiling height. If you’re installing on a higher ceiling, the coverage will be greater, but light intensity might be lower.

What Do I Need to Know About High Bay Installation?
If you’re using our LED high bays to replace metal halide high bays, choose the replacement based on the equivalent wattage. Since UFO LED lights function using less wattage than traditional fixtures, using the ‘equivalent wattage’ measurements ensures they have a similar lumen output. Use the Comparable Wattage filter on the side of the page to search based on your existing metal halide wattage.
Mounting Options
Consider the mounting style that best fits your application. Both mounting options for the UFO high bays provide easy, adaptable installations.
Eye Bolts
Features a round clasp at the top that allows you to hang the high bay on a chain or hook.

Mounting Hooks
Allows you to simply hook the high bay onto the installation area for a suspended mount.

While installation of UFO high bays is generally straightforward, these fixtures should always be installed by a licensed electrician in compliance with any and all applicable regulations.
-
Install the eye bolt or mounting bracket.
-
Hang the fixture on the hook.
-
Connect the safety cable and wiring.
