Garage and Shop Lighting

Strip Light Fixtures
Strip light fixtures come in various styles, including standard, wraparound, and vapor-tight. Both integrated (LEDs built into the fixture) and LED-ready (bulbs can be installed and swapped out) options are available. Strip lights range from 2 to 4 feet long, with an 8-foot kit option. Select one of our strip kits with two 4-foot lights, which link together for retrofitting existing 8-foot fluorescent strip light housing. Ideal for both residential and commercial shops.

Vapor Tight Lights
Vapor-tight lights are constructed with tightly enclosed housing to prevent environmental hazards from causing damage to the fixture. Available in 2 ft and 4 ft, these lights are impact-resistant and weatherproof to operate in harsh environments. Linear and jelly jar styles are available.

LED Fluorescent Tube Replacements
Our fluorescent tube replacements are an energy-efficient solution to upgrading traditional troffers and strip fixtures with LEDs. We carry T5, T8, T9, and T12 options, with fixture lengths of 2, 4, and 8 feet. Type A/B 3-in-1 Universal ballasts are available to provide the most comprehensive solution. However, we also carry traditional Type A (ballast compatible), Type B single-end and dual-end (ballast bypass), and Type A/B Hybrid (ballast compatible and ballast bypass) solutions.

LED Corn Bulbs
Given in the name, LED corn bulbs look like an ear of corn due to the individual LED chips placed in long rows throughout. These bulbs replace traditional lighting, provide increased brightness, and are much more energy efficient. E26/E27 and E39/EX39 base types are available. Install corn bulbs in your high bays, wall packs, floodlights, and more.

LED Retrofit Light Kits
Our retrofit light kits are the simplest solution for replacing traditional fixtures with LEDs. They are available for shop lights, strip lights, troffers, and vapor-tight lights. Choose your replacement based on the equivalent wattage. Retrofits simplify installations and are generally the most cost-effective solution.

Shop and Garage Lighting FAQs
What Is LED Garage and Shop Lighting?
Garage and shop lighting refers to fixtures that provide effective lighting in garages, auto shops, workshops, and other areas where detailed work is completed.
How Do I Know What Shop Light Fixture I Need?
The style of fixture you choose will depend on the purpose of the light. Some examples of different applications include:
- For overhead lighting, use corn bulbs to replace metal halide or HID bulbs or fluorescent tube replacements.
- For focused task lighting, opt for one of our strip fixtures, specifically one of our 4 ft and 8 ft options.
- Use one of our linkable fixtures for longer runs of light.
- For harsher environments where water or dirt may be present, use our vapor-tight lights, which are sealed to prevent materials from entering.
- If you’re using LEDs to replace existing fixtures such as troffer lights, strip lights, or high bays, use one of our LED retrofit light kits to simplify installation.
How Many Fixtures Do I Need To Have Adequate Lighting in My Garage or Shop?
You must have the proper number of fixtures for your application to ensure uniform illumination without creating glare. This is done with the proper spacing and light intensity. The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) recommends garage workshops that have 20-75 footcandles and 215-807 lux, but the exact amount will vary depending on the size of the space. For auto shops, it’s recommended to have 50 footcandles and 538 lux.
What Are the Benefits of Using LEDs in My Garage or Shop?
There are multiple benefits to adding LEDs to your garage or shop:
- Using LEDs allows you to save money in the long run through their increased energy efficiency, which reduces electricity bills.
- LEDs have a greater longevity than traditional fixtures, which will reduce replacement and maintenance costs.
- LEDs provide a better light output while causing no eye strain, which is ideal during long work days.
- Lastly, LEDs are built without any of the chemicals or gases that some traditional lighting comes with. This improves safety in the event of a broken or blown fixture.
What Color Temperature Do I Need for My Shop Lights?
Lights installed in a shop or garage should have a natural or cool white (4000K-5000K) for the best visibility when working.
Do These Lights Come With Any Safety Certifications?
Many of our shop lights hold various certifications from ETL or UL. If a product has one of these certifications or listings, it has been tested under rigorous safety standards and is safe to install. Check the individual product pages to find the certifications for a specific product and more information about the certifications.
