FAQs:

What is an LED retrofit kit?

An LED retrofit kit consists of an LED driver and an LED lamp that can be installed in a fixture to replace an existing fluorescent or metal halide light with a more efficient LED light.

What do I need for an LED conversion kit?

Our LED retrofit kits contain everything you need to convert your existing fixture to LED technology. The kits typically include the driver and lights with the wiring to bypass the ballasts.  Many of our kits include magnetic surface mounts that can attach easily to existing fixtures.

How do I install an LED retrofit kit?

We offer different retrofit kits that can be easily installed into existing fluorescent fixtures with the included brackets, replacing fluorescent lamps. Additionally, we offer magnetic LED retrofit kits that simply stick to your existing steel frame and require removing the ballast and installing the magnetic surface-mounted driver.

Magnetic strip retrofit kits replace the ballast and existing lights in fluorescent fixtures. Installing magnetic retrofit kits is one of the easiest ways to install. Simply disconnect the fixture from power, remove the old lamps, bypass the ballast, install the LEDs with the built-in magnets, and then wire the driver.

How do I install a retrofit kit for high bays, parking lot lights, wall packs, etc.?

We offer a hanging and suspension kit for our pendant LED strip light fixtures that make hanging them easy. Most of our strip light fixtures come with all the pieces you would need to successfully and properly hang or mount your new fixture, or they have simple mounting holes for screws that you can utilize.

Do I need ground wire for an LED retrofit?

Yes, our LED retrofit kits come with the wiring and instructions on how to do so. Typically, you can just place the ground wire into a screw within the top of the troffer to ground the lights.

Do I need to bypass existing ballasts? If so, how do I bypass a ballast?

Yes, for LED retrofit kits, you need to bypass the ballast.

To bypass the ballast, start by turning off the power to the fixture, then disconnect the input power to the ballast, followed by the wires that connect the ballast to the tombstones, often called sockets. You have the option of leaving the ballast inside the fixture, or removing it entirely.

Should I use a retrofit kit or purchase a new fixture?

The decision between buying an LED retrofit kit and a new fixture depends on the existing fixture, your budget, and the type of lighting that is most suitable for your needs. If you have an old light fixture that is still in good condition, then investing in an LED retrofit kit could be a great way to save money while still getting all the benefits of LED lighting. However, if your current fixtures are outdated or damaged, then buying a new fixture may be the best option. We offer both LED retrofit kits and new LED troffer and panel fixtures.
