This Explosion-Proof LED Light is listed as UL1598 for wet locations and UL1598A for outdoor marine applications. It is also classified as UL844 and meets National Electric Code—NFPA 70, article 500—requirements in the U.S. for Class 1 Division 1 (groups C and D), Class 1 Division 2 (groups A, B, C, and D), and Class 2 Division 2 (groups F and G) hazardous locations. These locations include granaries, mills, and mines, locations with gasoline vapors, such as gas stations, airplane hangars, or auto shops, and environments where petrochemical vapors exist. The light fixture meets IECEx Zone 1, 2, 21, and 22 requirements for safe operation around combustible gas and dust.

An anodized die cast aluminum housing prevents the release of sparks from internal components, is vibration resistant, and is powder coated to resist corrosion. The housing also has a removable back plate for access to the constant-current driver, which is sealed with a silicone gasket, and powerful LEDs are protected by a tempered glass lens. LEDs in the weatherproof LED flood light emit 13,000 lumens of powerful natural white illumination and produce a wide 120° beam pattern. This 100-watt LED Explosion-Proof Light replaces 320-watt metal-halide (MH) lights with comparable output and lasts 5 times longer. It operates within a wide 100-277 VAC range and has 2 openings for input and output connections through conduit. The fixture can be directly pole mounted with conduit—which must be used to maintain safety certifications—or mounted to a wall, ceiling, or floor using conduit and the adjustable bracket.

These requirements cover luminaires for use only under the following atmospheric conditions:
  • A minimum ambient temperature of minus 25°C (minus 13°F)
  • An oxygen concentration not greater than 21 percent by volume; and
  • A nominal barometric pressure of one atmosphere
The product meets general safety requirements from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) LLC and is certified for use in wet locations. This end-product certification is independent of the UL certifications for luminaires used in hazardous locations. Products that have this certification are intended for installation on branch circuits of 600V nominal or less between conductors in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I (CEC), CSA C22.1, with the U.S. National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA 70, and with the Mexican National Electrical Code, NOM-001-SEDE.
The product meets requirements for use on marine vessels and can be safely exposed to saltwater. The requirements are supplementary to UL1598 and are independent of the UL certifications for luminaires used in hazardous locations. Products that have this certification utilize grounded systems in accordance with the United States Coast Guard Electrical Engineering Regulations 46 CFR, Parts 110 - 113, Subchapter J and, insofar as it applies, the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, and the Recommended Practice for Electrical Installations on Shipboard, IEEE 45.
This product meets higher lumen and efficacy standards than are required for a normal DLC® classification. This classification also requires submission of a driver IN-SITU temperature measurement test (ISTMT) along with information regarding integral controls.
IECEx facilitates international trade of electrical products designed for use in hazardous locations. This product has been tested and found to comply with international IEC standards. This certification also ensures that the quality system of the production facility meets IECEx requirements.
Products with a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) label meet all requirements and rules set forth by the FCC and won't cause interference with other electronic devices. According to FCC's website, "The Federal Communications Commission regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories." Products that generate radio frequency (RF) energy, such as RF remote controls and certain LED light bulbs, are tested to ensure that they are within the FCC's guidelines and limits and do not cause harmful interference.
