The weather and leaves are beginning to change, meaning it’s time to get excited about the upcoming fall season. At Super Bright LEDs, we understand that usually means getting the decor ready as well. We crafted this blog of 6 DIY fall decorations, with supplies you probably already have on hand, to help you create unique, festive designs. Our fall lighting DIYs use LEDs, which are energy efficient, meaning when you use them for your DIY projects, they will release less heat, last longer, and save you money in the long run. LEDs also have better light quality, ensuring your decorations will look the best they can.
LED Lighted Pumpkins
Materials:
-
Glass Bowl
-
Mod Podge
-
Fake Leaves
-
Sponge Paint Brush
-
Twine or Yarn
-
Hot Glue Gun
-
Fairy Lights or Tea Lights
Steps:
1. Use a sponge paint brush to add a thin layer of Mod Podge to the bowl or vase.
2. Let the Mod Podge sit for a couple of minutes until sticky. Take a fake leaf and press it against the Mod Podge until flat.
3. Continue this process until the entire bowl is covered to your liking.
4. Wait for this layer to dry. Then, add another layer of Mod Podge over the top. Let that dry. The white paint will turn clear when it’s fully dry. I waited overnight to move to the next step.
5. The next day, I noticed a couple of spots on my leaves that were peeling at the ends, so I used my hot glue gun to seal those ends.

6. Then, take your twine and hot glue gun and attach the beginning of the twine to the bottom center of the bowl.
7. Wrap the twine all the way around from left to right and glue it down again. Take the twine and wrap it from the top to bottom, and glue it down again. Then, wrap the twine all the way around in one of the diagonals, glue it down, and wrap it in the other diagonal direction and hot glue it down. This is to create the pumpkin shape.
8. Once the twine is back at the bottom, wrap the twine in a small circle and hot glue it down again. Repeat this process, creating smaller circles on top of the other until it creates stem. Cut off the excess twine.

9. Hot-glue the ends of two fake leaves together. Glue them to the bottom of the stem.
10. Place the RGB color-changing tea lights or battery operated fairly lights into the bowls' opening.
Note: For safety reasons, don’t use a real flame near the Mod Podge.

Note: We have remote-controlled warm-white fairy lights if you prefer a warmer tone. These do require a USB plug in.

Mason Jar Lanterns
Materials:
-
Mason Jar
-
Filler Decor- fake pumpkins, fake leaves
-
LED Battery-Operated Fairy Lights

Steps:
1. Put the fairy lights at the very bottom of the jar. As you place the rest of the filler pieces, weave the fairy lights in an upward motion through the decor.
2. Place the battery pack towards the top of the jar so it can be easily hidden in the door, but also accessible for turning on and off.

3. If you choose to use tea lights instead, turn the tea lights on a fall color, such as red, and place multiple throughout the jar until it is fully illuminated throughout.

If you prefer a warm-white, use one of our USB fairy lights and hide the cord behind the jar.
Fall Lantern
Materials:
-
Lantern
-
Fall Leaf Garland
-
Zip Ties
-
Fake Pumpkins
-
Scissors

Steps:
1. Choose a lantern with a battery operated candle inside. We recommend this NEBO old red LED lantern due to the rustic style, but any style will work for this DIY.
2. Take a strand of fall garland and begin wrapping it around the lantern. Secure the garland using zip ties.
3. Use scissors to cut off the ends of the zip ties.

4. For a greater decorative appearance, consider laying fake pumpkins around the bottom.

Spooky Solar Lights
Materials:
-
Wide Mouth Mason Jar
-
Black Paint
-
White Paint
-
Paint Brushes
-
LED Solar Lights
Steps:
1. Remove the lid from a wide-mouth mason jar. Before beginning the DIY, check that the mason jar is large enough to fit over the solar lights. For this example, we’re using one of our LED solar path lights. I used wide mouth 16 oz mason jars for this and it fit perfectly.
2. Turn the jar upside down and begin to paint the exterior white. Wait for the paint to dry and add another layer or two of paint, depending on the coverage you want. Let the additional layers dry.

3. Use black paint to create eyes and a mouth. Let that dry.
4. Install the solar light in the ground outside using the instructions on the user manual.

5. Place the mason jars over the lights.
When the sun goes down, notice how the ghosts illuminate!

Custom Fall-Themed Wreath
Materials:
- Grapevine, Straw, or Foam
- Fairy Lights or String Lights
- Fake Leaves, Pine Cones, Pumpkin, Ribbon
- Floral Wire or Hot Glue Gun
Steps:
- Begin with a wreath base which can be made of grapevine, straw, or foam.
- Wrap a base layer of fairy lights or string lights around the wreath to create a foundation of lighting.
- Before attaching your decor to the base, plan out where you want to place each object. Start with larger objects first and build out layers from there. You can use various fall-themed elements such as artificial leaves, pinecones, small pumpkins, berries, burlap, or plaid ribbons.
- Once you know where you want to place each decoration, use floral wire or hot glue to attach each item securely to the wreath base. Wrap a final layer of lights around your decorations and strategically position the light bulbs to be in view.
- When you are done, hang your wreath on your front door, on top of your fireplace, or on your kitchen counter.
