Understanding LED Parking Lot Light Mount Types
When choosing LED parking lot lights, selecting the right mount type or mounting bracket is crucial to ensure proper installation, light distribution, and performance. This guide provides an overview of the most common parking lot light mount types, detailing their features, uses, and benefits to help you make an informed decision. Whether you're upgrading an existing system or planning a new installation, this resource is designed to simplify the selection process and ensure your lighting solution meets its full potential.
Adjustable Arm Mount
Adjustable arm mounts attach flush to square or round poles, not over the top of the pole like a slipfitter mount. They allow you to adjust the angle of the light fixture. Use these mounts when you need to customize the direction of light to cover specific areas, such as parking lots with unique layouts or areas requiring precise lighting.
Adjustable arm mounts are versatile and provide flexibility to aim the light exactly where needed. This can help angle the light to avoid light pollution.
Fixed Arm Mount
Fixed arm mounts attach directly to the poles, and the light fixture remains fixed at a set angle. They sit flush with the pole. They are ideal for applications where adjustments aren’t necessary, such as standard parking lot layouts with even, consistent lighting needs. These mounts are simple to install, reliable, and low-maintenance due to no moving parts.
Knuckle Slipfitter Mount
A knuckle slipfitter mount fits over a tenon (a cylindrical extension on a pole) and includes a pivoting knuckle for angling the light. It is perfect for poles with tenons and applications requiring light direction adjustments.
Tenon Mounts
Tenon mounts are adapters for square and round poles that position the light as needed. They can be used with slip-fitter mounts to support more than one fixture or to add 2 2/8-inch Slipfitter mounts to poles and walls that do not already have them.
Trunnion Mount
Trunnion mounts have a U-shaped bracket that attaches to flat surfaces like walls or beams. They are common for building-mounted parking lot lights or retrofits where pole installation isn’t possible.
Trunnions allow for vertical adjustments. You can tilt the fixture to the desired angle. Once the angle is set, a locking bolt secures the position, ensuring stability. They can be mounted on walls for perimeter lighting. Trunnion mounts are a great choice for parking lots that are adjacent to buildings or supplementing pole lighting.
Yoke Bracket
Yoke brackets, also sometimes called “U” brackets or flood mounts, are similar to the trunnion mounts. However, the yoke bracket is shaped like a flat handle that bolts the fixture to walls, beams, or poles. Yoke mounts are suitable for versatile mounting on flat surfaces, especially when directional adjustments are needed.
Yoke brackets provide excellent adjustability to aim the light where needed and are most often used for high-power fixtures. They are great for large parking lots, outdoor sports areas, or spaces needing powerful, directional lighting.
